Julie & Julia Movie Review

Julie And Julia is about a woman who loves to cook, is stuck in a dead end job that she hates, and feels that her life is going nowhere. So to get something accomplished she decides to write a blog about cooking. She is going to cook through Julia Child's "Mastering The Art of French Cooking" in a year. Along the way we get to see what happens in Julia Child's life, from learning how to cook to creating her first cookbook.

When I first walked into the theater I saw that the percentage of males to older females was very small, and thought that I had gotten in over my head. I was wrong. This movie was excellent. I was not bored by it and I enjoyed almost every minute. Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) played perfectly the larger than life character that most people think of when they think of Julia Child. Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) was great as well bringing a great personality to the movie. When one story had a great climax it would take you to the other story and make you wait to see what happens. This movie can take on, I believe, the Blockbuster Summer Movies punch for punch because, what this movie lacks in explosions and special effects, it makes up in with a great plot, excellent dialouge & great characters. I recommend this movie to everyone.

There were a couple of things I didn't like though. They could have explained certain things better. As an expample (without giving anything away), in the middle of the movie Julia Child starts crying after reading a letter she got from her sister and her husband is comforting her, and it isn't explained why that letter made her cry. She read the letter out loud and the news seemed happy but she started to cry. One can only guess why (untill they get home and can google it). That problem happened a couple of times during the movie. Another thing was Julia Child's husband (played by Stanley Tucci) should of had more dialouge. I really liked him as that character but it seemed that he didn't have enough dialouge and the dialouge he did have didn't sit quite right with me.

But all in all with everything taken into consideration, this was a great movie. I give it a 9/10.

(Non-Spoiler) My favorite part of the movie was when Julia's husband was getting into a fight with her dad over Politics, Because her dad was a big fan of McCarthy (the politican, google him) and he & Julia were not.

Untill Next Time, in the words of Julia Child, Bon Appetit

moot on Time's 100 Most Influental People

  • May. 1st, 2009 at 5:09 PM
E.B Incorporated
I got my Time Magazine in the paper today and it was the 100 most influential people edition. I decided to take a quick glance at who made it this year. As I was scanning through I saw the obvious people,Barack Obama, Suze Orman, and Hillary Clinton. Then I saw something that gave me quite a surprise. I saw the word moot. Know when I saw that I got a click in my head that reminded me of 4chan, anonymous, and a abundance of viral videos (Now I would not know that stuff if it hadn't been for my curiosity into things I do not know, the battle of Anonymous and Scientology and (most imporatantly) Wikipedia, (where I have spent hours reading articles on all these subjects).

Anyways, back to the story. Now when I saw moot the first thing that came to my mind was "How did he get onto Time's 100 Most Influential people?" so I read the article, which was written by Rick Astley (The reason he was probably asked to write it is because he is the most known figure where the sheer amount of views on his "Never Gonna Give You Up" music video is a example of the power of 4chan) and I found out two thing. One, Rick Astley makes very odd and funny articles, in my opinion, and Two, due to 4chan's power and army of Anonymuses (or is is anonymi?) he was able to win Time's Online Poll of most influential people with over 16 million votes (in all truth I just found out he won the poll in the article not by how much), which really didn't surprise me because the only thing that is more powerful than 4chan and the power of anonymous is the Colbert Nation.

What really surprised me though is that Time magazine would actually put moot in the top 100. Not for the reason of that he is not influential, but for what he is. Most of these people in the 100 are world leaders, titans of industry, and world-known TV pundits, and putting someone who is not in either of those catagories kind of just feels out of place. But that got me to thinking that maybe are focus on influential people is not by what postion of power they have or who their followers our, but how they use their influence to show or change things that would not have happened in the first place, and in that area, moot has that battle rapped up.

Now I don't know much more than the bare bones behind many of the things that have happened around 4chan, anonymus, moot, and how many viral videos start, but I do know that in a world where influence matters, moot and his followers have a good fight against armies that most countries can put up (metaphorically).

(P.S I probably made some mistakes when it comes to all the 4chan and anonymous stuff, so I apologize)
(P.P.S this was written somewhat hastily so any other mistakes Grammer or otherwise, I apologize also)
(P.P.P.S if any people of Anonymous read this can you tell me what happened with the whole Boxxy incidnet a few months back)

This was the second to last episode of the season and it did not dissapoint. Starts of with Chuck and Sarah AWOL and getting a hotel room which of course would have the comedy routine where Chuck tries to get some, but can't due to Morgan. We also find out that Beckman is tempting Casey with the role of Colonel if he can get them back.

Without going into to much detail as to not give away to many spoilers, this episode was great. It advanced both of the plots very well and kept us at the edge of our seat the whole time. The only main problem with this was in the subplot, I think they rushed Morgan and his dreams to quickly. Instead of giving us what he wants to have as a actual career and have him quit in the same episode, they should of spread it out over more than one episode, but that was my main problem with the subplot. Besides that I positivly loved this episode.

My main problem as what is coming up is only the season finale, I thought the whole series was going to end next episode, and with what they showed this episode it would seem like that it would be the series finale. If they stretch this on they better make next season f&$%ing spectacular or they will most likely lose a major percentage of their audience for this show.

My rating of this episode is a 9/10, great episode but just a few things they could of done differently here and there. I cannot wait unitl next episode.

In Biology we are talking about Genetics and Cloning and Radiation and for class we were suppose to debate weather GMO's were good. I decided to say that they aren't good and here is my report. Just a note, she didn't say we had to say where we got our info from so I didn't write it down. Also I don't think that GMO's are bad, I just chose a side.

Genetically Modified Organisms Biology Debate

Eric Boisen

In the debate of whether the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) for food production is right or wrong, there have been many different arguments. I stand against the production of GMOs for food purposes not for the fact that they might be unhealthy but the fact that they would and have hurt our society. For the reasons of business greed, the social-economic impact, the impact on the environment, and how it would not help struggling and third-world nations, I will try to prove my point to you.

My first reason is business greed. Many of the GM food that are made are allowed to be patented by companies, what this means is that the businesses have the main right to produce and sell these food products. If a company knows or finds out that a farmer is using their crop without their permission, they can take legal action against these people, and they have before. This changes farming from a necessity to sustain life to a profit driven industry. This also allowed companies to choose and decide, basically, who gets to farm what and how much food can be made. This creates a farming monopoly owned by the big businesses, and that hurts society as a whole.

My second reason is the Social-economic impact. The Philippians, as an example, is a farming nation where they had grown their own food that was not Genetically Modified, but five years after the Philippians agreed to the Agriculture Agreement of 1995 where they started to plant GMOs, they had an agricultural deficit of $3.5 Billion compared to the $1.69 Billion Surplus before the Agricultural Agreement. The main problem is actually that GMOs are the wrong answer to the wrong problem. The problem is not that there is enough food but not enough access to adequate food. Eighty percent of people who are hungry live in countries that export food while places like U.S and Europe have a food surplus problem. Also, in some farms where conventional food was grown they were contaminated by GM products and they had to pay fees to the businesses that made those GM items because of those patents that I stated in my first reason. All these things affect the social-economy and are not good for our society.

My third reason is the environment. GM Plants have the ability to pollinate and breed with other plants creating other GM plants. All these GM plants will be similar genetically and if a “super-virus” were to come along that could affect one of these plants, chances are that it could effect all the other plants it bread with and massively wipe out a extreme amount of our crops and other plants leaving to even more starvation and other environmental problems. Not only this but these GM plants have all these pesticides and chemicals that can seep into water and contaminate our water supply and cause damage to our health. All these things could be dangerous and deadly to our society and our lives.

My final reason is how they would not help third-world and developing nations. By allowing big corporations to give food and plant their GM crops in certain countries it destroys smaller farmers because they can’t keep up like GM producers can. Also, because these companies control the patents to these products, if a country gets on the companies nerve, they can just say they can’t use their crop and leave them to starve. We should help the countries make food for them so they don’t need food aid. By giving GM crops to third world and developing nations we hurt their society and ours.

Because of my four reasons of business greed, the social-economic impact, the environment, and how they don’t help third-world and developing nations, I stand against the production of GMOs for agricultural production, and I shall leave you with this. Unregulated greed ends in unregulated destruction, and if we do not fix the productions, selling, and growing of GM crops in a way to not hurt our society, the odds of seeing our society tumble and possible crumble will be devastatingly high.

First before I give the review I have to say, did anyone else see that Chuck's father was going to be Orion in the first place? It was completely obvious for me. But now to the review:

Bringing the emotional ties into the episode is a staple for almost all important episodes of Chuck, and even though they use it almost like the bread and butter of the show, the repetitiveness hasn't stopped my interest. This was a great filler episode. Now some people would not call this a filler episode but I definitely saw this as a filler episode. A filler to me is a episode that brings forward the sub-plot more than the main plot, which this episode did. The Main plot was almost unscathed except for the end of the episode while the sub-plot changed dramatically. With both Chuck and Morgan needing to do the same thing (trust someone they don't) I am glad they had different consequences. With Chuck's trust leading him to where his father is located, and Morgans trust leading Big Mike to be returned to the sellers being replaced by Emmett.

I liked how Jill actually kept her end of the bargain and played along, though we maybe could have gone a little deeper into her thought process and taken out some of the unneeded parts of the subplot. The ending, for some reason, surprised me. Though I knew that it was going to happen, in the back of my mind I thought that Sarah would actually listen to her superior and take him away. The ending was textbook down to the period at the end of the sentence, leave the audience guessing to keep us tuned into the next episode, and it worked. I will be sure to watch (or DVR) next weeks episode for sure. In short, Chuck Vs. The First Kill was a great filler episode with only a few things that could have been changed.
My Rating 9.5/10

One more thing, has anyone else noticed how Chuck (the main character of the main plot) and Morgan's (the main character of the subplot) lives have somewhat mirrored each other in the show? As a example Morgan was basically outed from his crowed of followers at the Buy More leaving him to fend for himself as we saw at the end of the episode, and Chuck is now being hunted by the government and has to fend for himself except for help from Sarah. It might just be me but I see some similarities in the emotion of both plots.

Until Next Time, Keep Watching Tv. I know I will

These are my watched stocks and this is how they did this week in this very volatile stock week.

FNM .72 DOWN .13    /      FRE .80 DOWN .13     /     MBI 4.97 DOWN .08     /     SORC .26 UP .01

CAR .95 UP .11     /     EEE 1.12 DOWN .24     /     DYII 3.20 DOWN .30     /     SCMP 7.79 UP 1.59

The main reason many of these stocks did not have that big of gains or had losses is because of the bad day on the stock market Friday, though some stocks did poorly over the whole week. The stocks I was watching the most this week were EXM and LVS and they both had gains this week. I did also seem some stocks rise that I did not expect to see.

The thing that might happen with our market is that a double-bottom could occur. What happened when the dot-com bubble popped between 2002-2003 when there was a drop, rise, drop, rise, and drop, the same could happen now. So if you do invest in the market or have money invested, the best thing to do is to be careful and keep a eye open.

Until next time, have a good time investing.

I am going to the IHSSA 2009 Group All-State for our group's accomplishment in Television News. Our Group got 3 1's and out of 120 TV News groups, only 12 made it. This is a great achievment for me. I can't wait to go this Friday. Now I want to make it in Individual Speech, so lets see how Radio News goes for me. Maybe next year I can do Individual Improv and Radio news because they are both awesome.
